Behind these hazel eyes: Country Girl

I live in the big city but my heart is in the country. It always has been. Oh sure, there are great perks about living in a BIG metroplex like Dallas-Ft Worth.

First, there is every kind of shopping right around the corner. Every corner. I live 3 miles from 2 different Wal-marts, 4 miles from Target, 4 miles from the mall, 1 mile from Kroger. Honestly everything I could ever need or want is within 10 miles of my home. Food, car dealers, shoe stores galore, malls-plural, Jewelers, gas stations. Everything.

Entertainment: I have 3 movie theaters within 5 miles of my house. I am within 30 miles from the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars and concerts unimaginable...I mean I have tickets for this summer for Blake Shelton, Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, and Luke Bryan. Actually I have tickets for more than that but I forget who.

Anything medically I need is right here in DFW.

My neighbors are never in my business. Shoot, 95% of them don't know me and I have lived in my home over 14 years!

Still, I would trade all that ease in a heartbeat for a place on the lake with room for my garden, a front porch to sip tea on, a fishing pole, and a bunch of night crawlers. I grew up in a town where if everyone didn't know you, they knew someone who knew someone who you knew. The town gossips were always in everyone else's business and things like who paid their water bill late were big news! People knew your business, like it or not, and people also knew you. I don't need all the excitement of the big town. I do half my shopping on line now because really, who wants to go to the mall anyway? I really only go to one or two Mavs and Stars games a year and I never pay for Cowboy tickets because well, I won't line Jerry Jones' pocket. I would miss my 20-30 Rangers games a year but I could still watch them on TV. So really, I wouldn't mind living in the country where the dogs tend to roam free and the coyotes wail at night. Life is hard but it is rewarding and let's be honest, who doesn't want to live somewhere where they can hold hands with their honey at the end of a hard days work sipping sweet tea and watching the sunset over the lake? That may not be your idea of heaven but it sure is mine!

  1. I am right there with you on city convenience vs. country peace. I really enjoy having so many food, shopping, entertainment options within short driving distance, but I really miss my small town house that was just blocks from the lake. I would love to live near water again someday. I think that's the water sign in me.
