What I'm Loving: The Chicken Express

Rex the Roo

Quick hello Wednesday!  I know I have been MIA lately and that's mostly because life has been a lot nuts.

So here is what I'm loving and it's almost all about the chicks.

Chickens:

First is our new Roo Rex.  Chickens are the closest living relative to the T-Rex so when we got our Roo last weekend it seemed only right to call him Rex.  He is the same age as our oldest ladies (which technically makes him a cockerel) and he, so far, had been a good rooster.  We have a friend that wants to maybe give us his Roo too so I think he may be named Tex. Why not? I hope they get along.  Roosters aren't exactly non-territorial and Rex took to our ladies right away.

Our first egg ever!

Speaking of my ladies, they have started laying eggs. At least some of them have. We are getting about 3 a day right now.  That's a good production since only 6 are about the right age to lay and young hens don't lay daily.

Laurel, Logan, and Lesleigh

We got some new chicks too! The three above are White Leghorns.  We call the the triplets and decided to name them after my triplet nieces so meet Laurel, Logan, and Lesleigh.  Don't ask me who is who however because, unlike my nieces, I can't tell these trips apart.

The Triplets with the little babies

We also got 4 other babies who we haven't come up with names for...I am willing to take suggestions if anyone out there has some good chicken names. These are all hens so keeping that in mind, we already have the following:
Frizzy, Star, Snow White, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Katniss, Henrietta, Dumbledoor, Prim, Beltre, Lemon, Winnie, ah...ok that's all I can remember but there are 7 others!  I need to take pictures and write them down!  Lol

So if you are keeping score at home, that is 26 Hens and 1 Roo. For those who are curious, yes when we get a broody hen we are going to let her have chicks.  We even set up an outdoor brooder for when this happens.

I have to give a shout out to my sister in laws dad who not only gave us Rex but the idea for the outdoor brooder.  :)

Now for what else I am loving:

The pope's visit to the US.  He is a humble man and while I am not really on board with all the changes he has made in the Catholic Church, as a Catholic, I understand his reasons and support the changes.  (Although truth here, I still mumble the prayers because I had 42 years of the old-new mass.)

South Park last week for making fun of all the PC craziness.  People are too dang sensitive and frankly, if you follow me, you should know that I am going to speak honestly and gosh darn it, I will wish you a Merry Christmas because I was taught manners and because I freaking love Christmas! If you don't and you are offended by it, that's your problem.

Hubs and me at the Texas Rangers Red Out last week

The Texas Rangers!!!
They are 10 games from clinching the AL West!  I am so happy and excited for baseball and yes, I already have my post season tickets!  I can't wait to share post season baseball with the hubby.

College Football:
I am loving the return of college football even if my Notre Dame Fighting Irish are a little LOT beat up and hurt and even if going into the season, I knew my Texas Longhorns were going to have a growth season.   Nothing is better than college football, except post season baseball!

So that's it.   What are you loving?  Happy Hump Day folks!

What I'm Loving and Have a Pinteresting Wednesday 12: The one with East Texas

From this button to.....

This Button
(I know, I am bending to the black and white trend but I am trying to simplify my blog design and this is what happened....Plus, the chalk board theme is a favorite of mine since I used that for my wedding invitations and as part of my wedding theme.   So you will have to forgive me!)

What I'm loving

Sharing my weekend with you!

Saturday morning I headed to East Texas to meet up with hubs and friends. This is our land.  It has been raining for most of the last 2 months so our ponds are very full.  I have never actually seen them this full!

We went out there to work, mostly cutting grass and spraying bug and weed killer but in the process I managed to snap some amazing photos showing why I love this place.

Plus, I managed to help rescue two dogs who had lost their owners.  I felt pretty good about that especially since one of the dogs was injured.

This is pond number two.  Isn't this place amazing?  I kind of want to build a home out there when we retire.

When we got home we were hot, tired and ready for the pool. This is from our backyard.  I can't tell you where I hid all that gold at the end of those rainbows but it really was pretty seeing the two side by side.

Sunday Hubs and I headed to the ballpark to watch some baseball, see some friends, and for the kiddo and myself, struggle not feeling well.  Luckily, I was feeling better by Monday but as you know, kiddo has been sick all week.

So my goofy hubs is always making faces when I take pictures with him.  I decided to turn the table and make one too.

Also it was Elvis Andrus Garden Gnome day.  A little disturbing and I don't think we have taken them out the box yet....but we have them.

Also I have been eating gluten free for the last what is it?  Three weeks and I found the most amazing gluten free pizza in my freezer section.   Freschetta makes this pizza and it may actually be my favorite in a box pizza ever.

Also on my loving list this week:

-I have lost 8 pounds in the last week.  Yay me!

-I am looking forward to the kiddo's b-day on Friday and the craziness of having her friends stay over.

-I am excited to make her b-day cake and hopefully make her smile.

-Our garden is producing tomatoes, squash, zucchini and cucumbers!  It is so nice to be able to go to your own back yard and find food.

-My now 22 chicks are happy.  (I am still sad about the 23rd but even my hubs ex said we did good only losing 1)

-My blog redesign in honor of having my own domain.   There was nothing wrong with the old blog and this one probably will get tweeked more but gosh, I love playing with it.  I get bored easily.

Pinning:
I am going to skip it this week because honestly I don't think I have pinned much that isn't on my secret boards or gluten free cooking.

Okay so what are you loving and or pinning this week?

What I'm Loving & Have a Pinteresting Wednesday Blog Hop

What I am loving:

*This video....It is so funny and who doesn't love Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon.  I can't pick my favorite.

*Speaking of the Super Bowl, I loved Katy Perry.   I know some people weren't that impressed but I thought the effects were amazing and I have to tell you, if she actually was singing and not lip sinking all of that while hopping around like a bunny in high heels and doing all that crazy choreography, then I am amazed.

*Sweet Potato Chips.
Goodness, I may never eat a potato chip again!  I actually love sweet potatoes that are spicy so when I indulge in a chip with salsa, I am picking sweet potatoes now.  For some reason, I have convinced myself this is a healthier choice.

*Crafting
Okay so there is a project that is literally driving me crazy and when I finally get it done, I will be blogging about it but I am totally in love with my sanders, paint, and the incredible amount of dirty I have been lately.

*That my husband let me pick out my own Valentine's Day gift.  Sometimes he will buy me jewlery but most of the time, like with my engagement ring, he let me pick my own out.  I love that he doesn't fuss too much about me being a girlie girl when it comes to this stuff even if I haven't worn much jewlery other than my wedding rings since we got married.

*Coffee
Just expect me to love this every week and you won't be surprised.

*My husband's smoked chicken.
Have I mentioned before that I married a man that can cook?

*All the blogs I have been reading.
There are some amazing and talented writers out there and I have been reading a bunch of new blogs since joining The Blogging Elite.

*Speaking of The Blogging Elite, what a wonderful and supportive group of bloggers!

Have a Pinteresting Wednesday:

Faux fireplace with bookshelves on sides. Want to build this. :)

Source

I want to do a built in entertainment/electronic fire place in my family room so much!  I love this because it has shelves everywhere and I could hid my vast DVD collection.

Old armoire used for big TV transformed into a bar. Removed two large front doors, and adapted the interior. Work involved was minimal.... Great idea for dining room
Source

I see old armoires everywhere at second hand stores and for CHEAP but I never know exactly what to do with them since I have an amazing one in my bedroom already which I have clothing in.  This I totally love.   I am so doing this.

I want a buffet for my dining room but I do not want to pay the $3000 it would cost me to have the kind I want so I am thinking of trying to make my own, with the help of my hubby.  Don't tell him yet though since I have only asked him to show be how to use the saw! :)

Metallic painted furniture
Source

I am really trying to figure out how to encorporate metalic painted furniture in  my country home.  It is so upscale and way more New York than I am but I totally love it!

I would litterally kill for this piece. It is very ornate and completey perfect for my dining room which is going to have a teal and red table soon.

My step-daughter is obsessed with potatoes.  Seriously, my mom made twice baked potatoes for Thanksgiving the first time I met my step-daughter and I am not completely convinced she doesn't want to be with us in the hopes that we will have twice baked potatoes every week.  These look so good, I may have to try them!

If there is one thing about my husband that drives me crazy (and there are actually many) it is that he is kind of picky about his food.  He doesn't like sauces unless he makes them.  You would not believe the battle we have over spaghetti sauce.  I like mine, he prefers his.  When we have spaghetti, we have two sauces.   He also doesn't like anything sweet  or creamy on his meat.  This means any sweet and sour or BBQ is probably not going to fly.   To me, this Chicken Dish looks amazing. Unfortunately, I like sugar....a lot!

Dog necklace make you beautiful, WILW and OHP

Wednesday!  Don't you LOVE short weeks?  Time to Link up with Jamie for What I'm Loving and
Michelle for Oh How Pinteresting!

I love:

*That my brother totally surprise me last night.  I was expecting him to be very unhappy with a choice I have made and it turns out, my mom gave him advance notice that she supports my choice and he wished me happiness.  It made me so happy, I almost cried.

*The text messages I get almost every morning basically saying "I can't wait to see you and have an amazing day."  I know he is traveling for work but I miss his face.

*Not feeling unsure about a relationship.  Not wondering what he wants because he tells me.  Not feeling like he is pushing me away and pulling me in because he doesn't know what he wants.  Knowing that I am exactly what he wants just as I am.  I have never had any of those things before and to have them now is so amazing.

*That when T called me the other day, he asked how my dogs were out of the blue.  I just love that.

*I love the workout I got in last night.  I like when I can combine muscle and cardio and drip after a workout is done.  That is a sucessful workout in my opininon.

*That I feel like being a girlie-girl again.  I have spent the last 6 months in jeans and t-shirts because I didn't want to feel female.  I wanted to push that aside. I am breaking out the heels and pretty cloths because that is who I am.  A girlie-sporty girl.

*I love coffee.  It is true.

*I love the Cara Box I got last night.  It is totally amazing..and it must wait for another blog for the big reveal but I have to say, I feel so lucky to have met all the amazing women in the Cara Box Exchange!  My new blog friends now reached 4 totally amazing women!  I love amazing women and boy have I been surrounded by them.  Thank you sweet lord.

*I get to see baseball and Toby Mac in concert Sunday.  How awesome is that?

I love my Sadie necklace.  She cracks me up! I definately feel this is me at my most beautiful.

I love that I can see a tiny bit of muscle definition in my really pale legs.  Time to ramp up the workouts!

I love this quote.  Feeling your own beauty is a struggle!

With that in mind...here is some of what I pinned this week:

T told me something similar about what he remembered about me when we met. (Not the I love you part.  Way too soon)

He tells me this too.

My grandma used to sing this to me.

Best advice ever!

Smile until it hurts!

I tried to clean it up.....but OMG this made me laugh...a lot!

This is my problem motto!

Laura

OHP and WILW Blog: Lot's of Love TODAY!!!

Time to link up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for Oh, How Pinteresting

and Jamie  at This Kind of Love for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

What I am LOVING:

-I love my blog!
It is like a little bit of therapy every single day. Some time to just reflect on what's right and what's in need of fixing. Sometimes I struggle with what to share and sometimes the really, really personal stuff I don't share because it involves others. All that said, this blog has helped me get through some very difficult heartaches.

-Everyone who stops by and reads my blog. I am really amazed at the span of readers. There are stats that sometimes I will just look at amazed during my lunch. 85% of my readers are from the US, which is understandable. I have a significant number of people reading in Alaska. Hi, Alaska!! The most interesting thing to me is that 5% of the rest of the people who stop by are in Russia. Hi, Russia!! Secretly I wonder, are you all really Texas Ranger & Dallas Cowboy fans? Whatever it is I am thankful for everyone who finds my little blog readable.

My look today! Sometime I feel cute. Today I do!

The T says "THIS IS WHAT AWESOME LOOKS LIKE"

-My friends:

I tell you all at least once a week how amazing my buddy Chance is so I won't bore you with that again...although he surely think that is the best part of every blog.

So I am going to tell you instead about Chance's best friend...no not me, his other best friend. He is an amazing little boy who loves Elvis Andrus, Harry Potter, Ninja Turtles, and the Texas Rangers and he always makes Chance smile. Nothing and nobody is more important to Chance oh, and he is a superhero! Also, he is his father's son and listening to his daddy talk about his son is a joy. He literally Lights UP! They are both so handsome!  (They are also both single....but you have to pass the best friend test and in that case I do mean me!)

My friend Rachel who somehow seems to know just what to say or just the pin to send me to make me smile even when she is at her office and I am at mine and we haven't talked all day. I like to think of Rachel as the good side of me. There is bad...that's all on me!  Rachel is also the strongest person I know.  She has been through some really hard times (Read about it here) and she is handling it with the faith and the character of a true angel  a true Texan and Texas Ranger fan!

My friend Khrystal who not only agrees to be in silly pictures with me but who agrees to go biking with me and to DORBA social events. She may cuss like a sailor but she has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know and when she loves you, you are blessed!

And my friend Trish who drags me to crazy places and likes to get me in Trouble!  She is incredibly protective of her friends and she has the two most amazing teenage daughters!  They are very cool young ladies and I always enjoy talking to them  Plus, they have an awesome mom and I love her skinny little, high heel wearing butt!!!

I love them all and they have been such an amazing gift in my life!

-Twitter and the Texas Rangers because without them not one of those amazing people would be in my life. (Shout out to my Tweeples! I miss you...kinda! Well, some of you! Hehe)

Okay enough of the serious how about some silly?

I love being silly. Can you tell?

I had a night of beauty and I gave myself a facial and a pedicure.

Ignore my fugly toes and appreciate the hot pink!

My new ring. I have never been a big pink fan...I actually really hate pink usually but...I love this rose quartz ring. So, you will never find a room in my house painted pink but I may wear a little...light pink...sometimes. Besides this is a love stone so what the heck?

-I love springing forward! It got dark tonight at 6:45. Next week that will be 7:45 and next week I will be riding my bike after work again...daily. I already have it planned. Horseshoe and North Shore...I'm coming for you!

                                                                           YES!

Alright let's see what I PINNED!

-I also choose to take chances and not play it safe. I choose to risk another broken heart because someone out there somewhere is MY Prince Charming. I choose to live for today because tomorrow isn't promised.

I made this mistake. I won't make it again!

This is my Ries and she is just like Bailey!

(Or post them on my blog!)

Happy Hump Day!

Simply,
Laura
