Whole 30 Week 1 plus cravings

I finished my first 7 days on the Whole 30 program Sunday.  Just a reminder, in this plan you eat meat, veggies, and fruit.  You give up highly processed foods and make whole food choices.

These are a few of my meals/snacks from last week.   I honestly don't think anything has been harder than reasonable.  I have found alternatives for everything except how to get my morning coffee a little sweet.  I admitted yesterday that I occasionally add Stevia in because, well I can't figure out why Stevia, a natural sweetener that doesn't effect blood sugar, is really bad.

Cravings:
Honestly except for an occasional chocolate craving which I satisfy with some form of fruit, I am good.

Sleep:
Okay, truth here, I sleep like crap most of the time but this last week I have been dead to the world.   I haven't had any trouble sleeping and when my husband, a closet 2am insomniac wakes me up accidentally,  I have no problem getting back to sleep.   I wake up refreshed too.  I admit that mid-afternoon I am tired but overall, it goes away.

Workouts:
I did manage to get a couple in last week.  I will be much happier when I get about 3 more a week but I consider this a tiny victory.

Concentration and Clarity:
I haven't noticed any great advancements on my concentration at work but I think my "brain fog" is better. Honestly, my mind jumps around like crazy all the time and I am still fighting my slight OCD issues but hey, this is a healthy eating plan not a miracle plan.

Migraines:
I still get headaches a lot but they aren't horrible headaches so that's good.  I'm not sure that I totally give credit to the eating, although food does effect headaches.  The simple reason? I get cluster migraines and I haven't been in a cluster for a few months.  Thank you God!

Food & more Food:
Overall, this is a good experience so far.  I find healthy food requires just a little planning and when I dig in, I remember how wonderful good-for-you food actually tastes.  I do miss my occasional glass of wine on the weekends but it isn't anything I am struggling with, yet anyway.
I have made a few smoothies to cure my cravings for ice cream but although I realize the Whole 30 prefers that you don't, I kept them completely within agreement with the plan using veggies, coconut milk or water,  and some fruit like banana or mango.   The one day that I made a breakfast smoothie, I used a little almond butter for protein.

Ok that's week one in a nutshell.   If you asked me today if I would recommend this, I would whole heartedly say yes!  In fact, I am feeling so good that I think I am going to switch to a mostly Paleo lifestyle when this is over.  My family isn't suffering either.  We make adjustments for their carb needs and I am happy to share any healthy goodies with them.  In fact, having fruit in the house has been a great thing for them.  They turn to that when they need a quick snack and that makes me happy!

WILW/OHP: Baseball style with lots of Tweeps!

Time to link up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

*I am loving baseball! I have missed my Rangers so hard and being back home is just perfect!
*I love the Texas Rangers play the last 3 series. This team is different this year but gosh they are fun!
*I love all the new-old friends I have met over the last week! Some of these super Tweeps I have been following for years and it is really nice to be able to say "Hi!" and get hugs and..pictures so without further ado here are some super awesome people I got to meet this week:

Willie! Yay! I think we have followed each other for 2 years so it was super awesome to meet!

Sandy (and honestly I may mean Sandi or possibly Sandie? I forgot to ask her how she spells it!). She and I have the same issue with laundry...we forget to fold it!

Phil! Ok honestly I met him thanks to Rachel and we started following each other this weekend and he is super nice and fun!

All of Chance's friends! It was super fun getting to put faces to the guys I hear about all the time. I met David last year but this was the first time I met the rest of the guys. They like beer and baseball and they don't mind letting an old lady like me hang!

Travis!! This guy is the best! He gives great hugs and he is sweet, funny and not only does he love the Rangers but he loves his bike and his bagpipes! That's right!! How super fun!! Ok, I also suspect he likes beer...just a guess!!

My "old" friends are awesome too!! Who else would go to all these games with me?? Who else would be seen with my flying hair and current crazy sexy "I smoke 4 packs a day sounding" voice thanks to...baseball!
*I love warm showers, my hair dryer, my curling iron, and electricity! If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you know why but let's just say...the electric company and I aren't speaking...although I was yelling a lot!

*I love, love, love all my baseball Tweeps (it's a long list!) I have gotten to meet in the last 2 1/2 years. Some of the most amazing, awesome friends have come to me thanks to Rangers baseball and Twitter and some of them I love with all my heart.

*I love the fact that I wake up exhausted with MLB TV playing on my TV because I fell asleep watching the Angels lose. I mean the A's win. Well...baseball.

*Finally, I love all of you who read my blog and especially those of you who make comments. I got some very supportive and sweet messages from ladies who understand yesterday's challenge all too well and I have received a ton of positive comments from people on my Rangers blogs too! Y'all rock!?

Linking up with Michelle for Oh, how Pinteresting to see what I have been pinning! (More baseball?)

*so TRUE!

Love these looks!

Yum!!

I need this to give to the girl who sat next to me at the game last night and started the night by calling the umpires referees. It went down hill from there.

Yum!

Joe Freaking Nathan! I don't have baseball crushes but Joe Nathan could change that!! Yum & awesome!

This reminded me of some fans of another team. That's all I'm admitting!

I am at the Five Place on Day 9!!!

It's Ok Thursday

Linking up for It's Ok Thursday with Amber and Neely so let's see what's Ok today!

*It's ok that I checked my windows and doors last night after watching Criminal Minds. The episode which talked a lot about social media may have hit a little too close to home.

*It's ok that I can't believe it is only Thursday! I feel like I have had a week of Monday and I am so ready to spend some QT on the back of my bike for a long, long ride.

So speaking of.....

*it's ok that I have bruises I didn't know I had. The ones on my arms and elbows I knew about but the huge one on my leg shocked me. I don't know how I did it but I have fallen so many times in the last week I'm not surprised. I am really glad I haven't put my clipless system on the bike yet. I think I would be dead or something!

*It's ok that one of my co-workers saw me Wednesday and gasped saying "If you go to the grocery store with all those bruises people are going to send you to a battered women's shelter."  I laughed and told her I was going to get a shirt that says:
Nobody hits me,
I hit trees.
I <3 my BIKE!
*it's ok that I was just so exhausted Wednesday night that I made myself not workout. I felt terrible about it but I also knew I wanted to ride a lot this weekend and if I am going to complete a Th-M stretch I am going to have to listen when I am exhausted! Sucks but I guess I am human.

*it's ok that I have eaten this for lunch two days in a row:

Well, I haven't eaten all of that because that would be crazy but I have been on a Veggie and Hummus kick lately and I am really ok with that.

*it's ok that I promised a friend I would do my own special "March Madness" bracket Friday. I'm not going to tell you what but let's just say it's hot and has nothing to do with college hoops.

*it's ok to be happy. Really, truly happy. I don't know what happened but something just clicked and I realized that I have the power and that is very liberating.

*It's ok to be a little bit selfish for a change. It's time to say "I choose me".

*it's ok that friends say "so...you dating anybody new yet?" Um, I don't know. Am I?

*It's ok that I saw a picture of Garth Brooks (who I love) with George Strait (who I also love) and thought "who's the old chubby guy who looks like Garth Brooks?" I guess we are all older and maybe a little chubbier, Garth. Well, George isn't but I am not sure he is human.

That's it! Next time we chat it will be FRIDAY!!

Enjoy the ride!

Laura
